Dr. Cheryl Ellenwood will be joining us from Washington State University's School of Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs to present her research on the Nez Perce Full Management Authority of National Fish Hatcheries. Her project explores how the Nez Perce Tribe has achieved full management authority of two national fish hatcheries and emerged as a leader in salmon recovery and production.

By exploring Dr. Ellenwood's interview data from three tribal fish hatcheries, the presentation will highlight the roles of Indigenous knowledge, cultural responsibilities, Tribal sovereignty, water rights, legal settlements, and federal–Tribal partnerships in advancing salmon stewardship and the Nez Perce's commitment to salmon recovery, offering an important example of Indigenous-led environmental governance.

The Nez Perce Tribal Fisheries Department was also one of our Honoring Nations awardees, which you can read about here: <https://indigenousgov.hks.harvard.edu/publications/nez-perce-tribal-fisheries-department-nez-perce-tribe>
