Chairman Rodney Butler

The Honorable Rodney A. Butler has served as Chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation since 2010, after joining the Tribal Council in 2004 and serving as Treasurer from 2005 to 2009. During his tenure, he has chaired several key committees for the Tribe, including the Finance, Housing, and Judicial Committees, and also served as Interim CEO of Foxwoods Resort Casino. As Chairman of the Tribal Council, he oversees Tribal government operations and presides over Council meetings. A University of Connecticut graduate in Finance and a former UConn football defensive back, Butler began his career at Foxwoods and later chaired the Tribal Business Advisory Board, overseeing the Tribe’s non-gaming enterprises. He has played a key role in Foxwoods Resort expansion, community development, the formation of the Tribe’s Endowment Trust, and the legalization of sports betting and iGaming in Connecticut. Butler serves on numerous boards, including NAFOA (as President), the National Congress of American Indians, the Treasury Tribal Advisory Committee, and several regional and national organizations. His honors include multiple lifetime achievement awards and an honorary doctorate from UConn. He remains focused on ensuring long-term stability for the Tribe and advancing tribal initiatives.
